TNA9 President’s Message

Renae Schumann, PhD, RN, CLNC, CNE

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Texas Nurses Association, District 9 website.
This has been an exciting and productive year for District 9! The membership is growing, and greater numbers of talented professional members are stepping up to take their place among leaders who advocate for nursing, healthcare, and patient care. Many or our members hold influential positions on governing bodies and boards impacting all levels of regional through global arenas.

Our Executive Board works well together and with the relative ease of primarily virtual group-work, we have implemented new initiatives which bring visibility to District 9 and are natural draws for new and experienced nurses who want to make a difference. Some of our new programs include:
• A very active “D9 Stars” social media campaign highlighting the achievements of a District 9 member
• A new taskforce intent on assessing and addressing the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
issues of all the nurses in the 11-counties making up District 9
• Enhanced continuing education offerings focusing on topics relevant to District 9 members
• A new “Dialog with the Expert” speaker series highlighting different District 9 members and their
professional experiences, overcoming obstacles, and leadership principles
• New partnerships with donors and sponsors which benefit District 9 members
• A new “Lifetime Achievement Award” presented the first time at the 2022 Nursing Celebration Gala,
presented to a member with sustained impact on Texas Nurses Association and District 9

I am grateful to the District 9 Board and District 9 members, and special consultants for their continued hard work. Our professionalism and teamwork benefits us all.
